Specialty or topic specific templates would be very helpful, as long as they are well thought out and use components that would allow for seamless data exchange between users or systems.

These things do not have to be created from scratch as there has already been a lot of effort put into achieving this type of functionality. It is possible to have a repository of templates that use standard names for data elements so that information entered by one user a GP or a specialist and that data would then be available to be imported into other users systems.
